Founded in 2015, Modulr is a dynamic and fast-paced FinTech with offices in London, Edinburgh and Dublin. Breaking new ground within the payments sector, Modulr is a Payment as a Service API platform created for digital businesses that need a faster, easier and more reliable way to move money.

The Challenge

Following their strong initial success in London, Modulr identified the need to scale and in 2018 set about looking for a location with a strong talent pool and pipeline.

Edinburgh was selected as being a burgeoning hub for talented software developers, having strong support available from industry and government bodies and for its thriving fintech scene.

Modulr needed to anchor and grow its software engineering, customer support, risk & compliance and finance teams and had ambitious plans to double headcount over a 6-month period, to reach 100 employees across its Edinburgh and London offices.

They needed a local HR partner to support their rapid organisational growth, help connect and embed them within local networks, develop their talent strategy and help them identify opportunities to build their employer brand in Scotland.

The Solution

Purpose HR conducted a recruitment audit to develop an understanding of Modulr’s existing employer brand, company values and recruitment marketing activity, highlighting risks and opportunities.

To build a strong employer brand and ensure that Modulr stood out as an employer of choice, Purpose HR identified key areas to increase awareness of the company across the FinTech and technology communities in Edinburgh.

Purpose HR delivered a tailored recruitment management solution which allowed Modulr’s ambitious hiring plans to be delivered and created processes and strategy for medium to long term hiring in both Edinburgh and London. We made key strategic introductions throughout our network, and assisted the Edinburgh launch by hosting a panel Q&A session event.

They continue on their scale-up journey with a robust recruitment and talent acquisition strategy in place, and now with their own in-house People & Culture team.
